Statement from Hamas regarding the inaugural Board of Peace meeting

Hamas released a statement after President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace meeting yesterday.

“In response to the peace council meeting on the Gaza Strip held today in the United States, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) emphasises that any political path or arrangements discussed regarding the Gaza Strip and the future of our Palestinian people must start from a complete cessation of aggression, lifting of the siege, and ensuring the legitimate national rights of our people, foremost among which is the right to freedom and self-determination.

“The holding of this meeting amid the ongoing crimes of occupation and its continuous violations of the ceasefire agreement obliges the international community and the parties participating in the council to take practical steps that compel the occupation to stop its aggression, open the crossings, allow humanitarian aid without restrictions, and immediately begin reconstruction.

“The movement also calls on international parties and mediators to shoulder their responsibilities in ensuring the implementation of what has been agreed upon, preventing the occupation from disrupting humanitarian and political entitlements, and working hard to establish a permanent ceasefire.

“Any genuine international effort to achieve stability in Gaza must be based on addressing the root of the problem, which is the occupation, ending its aggressive policies, and enabling our Palestinian people to obtain all their rights without any diminution.

“Any political path or arrangements discussed regarding the Gaza Strip and the future of our Palestinian people must start from a complete cessation of aggression, lifting the seige, and ensuring the rights of our people, foremost among which is their right to freedom and self-determination.”
