President Aoun accused of submitting to US demands

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has been accused of fully submitted to US demands and viewing Hezbollah as an ‘enemy to be eliminated,’ reported Al-Akhbar.

According to the report, Aoun pushed for direct talks with Israel and was willing to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but Arab leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, intervened to save him from the political fallout of such a meeting taking place.

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reportedly admitted in a private setting that the government’s decisions are meant to provide cover for Israeli military operations against Hezbollah, adding that negotiations are a ‘forced option for Lebanon.’

Meanwhile, the Lebanese military has finalised a six-officer delegation to the Pentagon for technical talks on ceasefire implementation and a timetable for Israeli withdrawal.
