A former militia commander in the Assad regime Fadi Saqr is facing allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in a case being drawn up by a Syrian human rights commission, The Guardian reported.
Saqr led the National Defence Forces in Damascus and is widely accused of involvement in mass killings and kidnappings (forced disappearances) in the Tadamon neighbourhood.
Deputy Chair of the National Commission for Transitional Justice Zahra al-Barazi said there was enough evidence, and that no one was above the law, but Saqr denies responsibility, telling the Guardian he only learned of the massacre through the media.
Residents had called for Saqr’s detention, saying he was in command and knew all about the killings, so the commission invited victims to help build a case, and any arrest warrant would need to be issued through the Syrian judiciary.
