Deputy of the State Duma of Russia Andrey Svintsov has stated that blocking Google in Russia is technically possible, but Roskomnadzor may have to wait for the company to return to the country to collect the debt.
However, the first Deputy Chairman of the IT Committee of the State Duma Anton Gorelkin refuted the information about the preparation of a ban on Google in Russia, saying there are no such plans yet, and this had been clarified with the regulatory authorities.
“According to him, the refusal of Google services and the transition to Russian analogues, if it happens at all, will be gradual.”
As of now, Gorelkin said that blocking Google would entail a whole range of negative effects, including problems with the functionality of Android operating systems, on which 60% of the Russian users’ smartphones operate.
