Israel want a deal with Hamas but kill 4 of the leaders’ sons

UPDATE | Reports from 6 May confirm that Azzam Khalil al-Hayya was killed by Israel following an airstrike in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City. Azzam was the fourth son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya to be killed, following the previous deaths of his brothers Osama, Hamza, and Hammam.

While Israeli media claimed he was not the primary target of the strike, the attack resulted in his death and added to the high number of Hayya family members who have been killed by Israel including his brother Hamza, who was killed in a February 2008 airstrike in Gaza, and his brother Osama, who was killed alongside his wife and three children during an attack on their Shujaiya home on 20 July 2014.

More recently, his brother Hammam was killed on 9 September 2025 during a strike in Doha, Qatar, while earlier Israeli attacks, such as the one in May 2007, resulted in the deaths of seven other members of the extended Hayya family.
