President Donald Trump has ordered the Federal Communications Commission, led by chairman Brendan Carr, to carry out early licence reviews for TV stations that are owned by ABC, as tensions escalate between the network and Trump, as the President pressures ABC to remove Jimmy Kimmel after a joke about Melania having a ‘glow like an expectant widow.’
The agency has directed ABC, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company, to file renewed applications within 30 days, beginning a lengthy legal process that would not immediately impact local stations.
While the FCC says the review is tied to an investigation into Disney’s diversity programs, critics argued it was also retaliation linked to Kimmel’s show.
