How the military is divided in the US/Israel-Iran conflict

Israeli military officials have revealed the division of labour with the US in the campaign against Iran, based on geography, target types and relative advantage.

According to the military, the Israeli Air Force is striking ballistic missile launchers and military assets in western and central Iran – the areas from which long-range missiles are fired at Israel, while the US military is targeting launchers in Southern Iran, used to fire shorter-range missiles at the Gulf bases.

Target types are also split in two, with the US taking responsibility for the entire Iranian navy, while the Israel forces focused on other targets, including government sites in Iran.

Israel relies heavily on US aerial refueling – the US has roughly ten times the IAF’s tanker fleet, with dozens stationed in Israel, that were seen in previous images of the Ben Gurion airport.

Military officials describe this as the first full-scale joint war between Israel and the US, with co-ordination cells operating in both countries, synchronising intelligence, targets and defence.

More than 1,000 US troops are stationed in Israel, according to the IDF Chief of Staff and CENTCOM Commander, and Israel is planning at least one to two more weeks of operations, aiming to hit thousands more government targets.
