Ukraine claim Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv’s energy infrastructure was largely unsuccessful

Most of the missiles that flew towards the Kyiv energy sector were successfully shot down, noted Serhiy Nagornyak, a People’s Deputy of Ukraine in an interview with Kyiv24.

“What the enemy planned for today, he did not achieve his goals. We repelled the attack quite well, even though various types of weapons were being launched, but we did a good job today in repelling the attack.”

According to Nagornyak’s forecasts, a slight easing in the power outage schedules is expected from March, meaning they will be less prolonged.

Despite this, reports from Real War, a pro-Ukrainian news channel that is often first with the news, although not always correct first time, stated last night that at least 10 ballistic missiles and 4 Zircons hit in the region within the space of 30 minutes, as at least 80 drones and cruise missiles were heading towards the region.

Damage was caused around the Kyiv region as a result of either successful hits of drones and missiles, or downed debris, as residents last night reported loud explosions were audible in the explosions, and were returning home this morning to assess the consequences.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that there were no casualties in the capital, but a missile fragment fell near an ambulance substation in the Dnipro District, which didn’t cause any fires, while a fragment landed in the courtyard of a residential building at another address, damaging a nearby car, and fragments were also found in an open area and in the courtyard of one of the buildings, as well as in a park opposite on of the high-rise buildings.

In the Svyatoshinsky District, the blast wave of an explosion broke windows in several residential buildings, but again no casualties, as windows were also reported to have been broken in an office building, and Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Tkachenko said information about a fire was unconfirmed.

Missile fragments fell in an open area in the Desnyansky District and in the Podilsky District, but neither caused a fire to break out.

One man was killed and twelve other people were injured, as houses were completely destroyed in the Fastiv district and in Sofiivska Borshchagivka due to the Russian attacks, according to Victoria Ruban, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Services.

“Practically all districts were under enemy attack, the most affected were the Fastiv district and Sofivska Borshchagivka. Here, private residential buildings were also hit by the enemy attack. The fire in Sofiivska Borshchagivka has been extinguished [and] the demolition of the debris and the search for people was ongoing.”

According to Ruban, the destruction of the buildings was very extensive, with several destroyed in both Sofiivska Borshchagivka and the Fastiv District, adding that all fires at 8 locations in different districts of the region had been extinguished.

Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Kalashnik stated that the 49-year-old man was killed in the Fastiv district, while a woman was injured as a result of debris in the Boryspil district, and investigators were establishing the consequences of the attacks in five districts of the region.
