Last night the Stavrolen Petrochemical Plant in Budyonnovsk, Stavropol Krai, one of Russia’s main producers of polyethylene and polypropylene, came under attack from Ukrainian drones, according to eyewitness testimony, images, and subsequent OSINT investigations.
Residents of Budyonnovsk reported explosions on the night of October 29, while a video captured from the moment of the attack by eyewitnesses claimed the attack was on a certain plant in the region.
After confirming one of the photos from the scene, OSINT concluded that the footage with the glow had been taken in the area of Severnaya Microdistrict street, and analysists believed the strike hit the enterprise LLC Stavrolen, at 1 Rosa Luxemburg Street.
LLC Stavrolen is an industrial enterprise in the chemical and petrochemical industry, located in Budyonnovsk, and is part of the Lukoil group, as well as one of the main producers of polypropylene and polyethylene in Russia, according to the Expert South publication.
Recently, LLC Stavrolen took third place in the ranking list of the “100 largest companies of the North Caucasus Federal District by volume of products sold in 2021,” and its claimed the plant produces around 340 thousand tons of ethylene, 319 thousand tons of Polyethylene, and 113 thousand tons of polypropylene annually, recording their 8-millionth ton of polyethylene in 2021.
Stavrolen’s products are used for the production of pipes, films, c able insulation, paint and varnish materials, according to the Expert South.
Stavropol’s regional head confirmed the strikes on the city, claiming the attacks caused no significant damage, as drones were destroyed using electronic warfare and air defence means, and casualties and destruction were avoided, while operational services were working at UAV crash sites.
