Syria has reinforced its border with Lebanon by deploying thousands of troops, rocket units and armoured vehicles as regional fighting intensifies, according to Reuters.
Reuters reported they were told by Syrian officers that the buildup, including formations from divisions such as the 52nd and 84th in western Homs and south of Tartus, is intended to curb arms and drug smuggling while preventing infiltration of Hezbollah or other militants.
The reinforcements are reported to include infantry units, along with short-range Grad and Katyusha rocket launchers.
A Syrian official told Reuters that Damascus has no plans to attack neighbouring countries but is prepared to respond to any threats to Syria or its partners.
