Missiles rained down on Belgorod and a series of explosions were heard over the Russian region again last night.
Damage was caused to a high-rise residential building during the attack, but its unknown whether this was caused by a Ukrainian missile or Russian air defence systems, and Belgorod’s Pepel news agency even suggested it was debris from a downed missile.
Locals told SHOT that the explosions began around 20:00, with witnesses hearing more than 10 loud noises, noting that a missile danger had been declared over the region between 20:02 and 20:13 in the evening.
According to residents, a high-rise building had suffered damage, while the blast wave damaged windows of at least five nearby apartments.
According to initial data, the AFU attacked with HIMARS missiles, and Russian air defence systems were engaged against aerial targets.
As the dust settled, services announced that two people had died and three others had sought medical assistance.
Damage was noted to the energy infrastructure, as local residents reported the lack of heat, power and water as night closed in.
Two men had been killed on the territory of one of the infrastructure facilities, while out of the three injured, one was in a serious condition in hospital, but the other two, who received shrapnel wounds, were sent to the local city hospital, stated Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov
City Mayor Valentin Demidov showed footage from Yesenin as eyewitnesses reported about the fact everyone was in shelters and there were no victims at the scene, although one of the apartments was severely damaged and the roof had also suffered damage.
However, as of this morning, the total number of injured parties has increased to five, while the number of damaged apartments was 29, and the technical floor was damaged in a nearby building, along with 4 cars that were hit by shrapnel.
Gladkov said this morning that many homes in Belgorod were without water, electricity or heating after the evening of shelling.
Today there were planned power outages so that restoration could continue, and due to the grid disruptions, electricity was currently being supplied from generators, as more information was due around 3pm.
Mayor Demidov advised Belgorod residents this morning to charge their power banks, and if this cannot be done at an apartment due to lack of electricity, then it should be done at heating points which opened at 9am at several addresses in the city.
Residents this morning reported that boiling water was pouring out of the basement because of a burst pipe, while locals from other areas of the city reported a lack of hot water, and others had no electricity or heating.
Aid from other regions began to arrive in Belgorod this morning, including the 100 mini-gas stations for refuelling RISE, and 250 thermal diesel heaters of various power capacities had been provided by TV host Vladimir Solovyov.
