An attempt was made earlier today to assassinate Lieutenant General of the Russian Defence Ministry Vladimir Alekseev.
Reports suggest that an unknown person shot at the General several times, and he was hospitalised as a result of the injuries, according to Russian state agencies TASS and RIA-Novosti.
Russian media stated that Alekseev was shot in the back several times, noting that Alekseev commanded Russia’s military intelligence in Syria and was one of the main key figures in Russian intelligence, believed also to be behind the operations in Ukraine.
Previous reports also suggested that the Main Intelligence Directorate reported Alekseev was responsible for the reconnaissance and preparing data for missile and aerial strikes in Ukraine, including any civilian targets.
Alekseev was also responsible for organising referendums in the occupied territories and establishing the so-called Kherson People’s Republic.
