Accident On Russian Railway Could Have Been Sabotage

RUSSIAN RAIL ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN SABOTAGE

Around 150 metres of railway track were destroyed in the Irkutsk region on November 21 following the derailing of a locomotive and nine coal wagons, reported the transport prosecutor’s office.

According to the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office, the incident happened on the Alazamay-Oblepikha section of the East Siberian Railway in the Tayshetsky district of the Irkutsk region resulting in no casualties, although the train traffic was completely stopped to allow for restoration work.

Investigators of the Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of railway transport, which caused  large damage through negligence).

According to investigators, the preliminary cause of the incident is the leaving of a foreign object on the railway tracks by workers who were carrying out repairs, and the damage exceeded 1 million rubles, stated the Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

On November 19, there were two tank cars of a freight train that had caught fire on the Shamary-Kordon section on the border of Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Oblast, and the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office stated the tanks contained gas condensate, but the cause of the fire couldn’t be confirmed.

Following that particular incident, the investigators of the Investigative Committee for Transport began a preliminary investigation while several trains were delayed or rerouted to bypass that particular section of the route.
