Last night explosions were suddenly and mysteriously reported in Lviv, as monitors and news sources scrambled to assess what had happened, given the region wasn’t under an alert for any Russian attacks at the time.
As things unfolded, information was released that a 23-year-old policewoman was killed as a result of the attack, noting that the police patrol arrived at the scene of the suspected break-in at 20 Danilishina Street, an explosion occurred, and as the second crew arrived to investigate, a second explosion took place.
According to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the police officers had received a fake call about a break-in to a store in the centre, noting that a patrol car and a civilian car were damaged as a result of the explosion.
As a result of the explosion, the windows and facades of nearby buildings were also damaged, and utility workers from multiple services cleaned up the scene.
Initial investigations have established that it was a homemade explosive device that had detonated, and the Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal proceeding in connection with terrorism.
