Three districts of Chernihiv left without power after Russian attacks

Attacks by the Russian forces in Nizhyn in Chernihiv, followed by major outlets in Kyiv, caused a mass power outage in both Nizhyn and the Chernihiv region.

This morning the electricity supply almost completely disappeared around 6am following the Russian drone attack on the energy infrastructure, leaving more than one hundred thousand subscribers without power.

Resilience Points have been set up around Chernihiv, while hospitals, water utilities and other critical infrastructure has been switched to backup generator operations.

City Mayor Oleksandr Kodola said: “Due to the complete power outage in the city, critical infrastructure facilities have begun switching to alternative power sources. This is a technological process that takes time. Currently, the switchover is ongoing, and the situation is under control of the relevant services.”

Speaking on air to Suspilne Radio, the Mayor also added: “In the morning it was -15 degrees. Therefore, not all generators will start immediately. Utilities are working. Water will be supplied according to the schedule two hours after one: there will be water for two hours, and there will be a break for an hour.”

Continuing, Kodola stated: “Invincibility points in the city are operating from 9am to 9pm. If the situation does not improve, we will transfer them to a 24-hour operating mode. All shops are working. But there are very serious problems with communication: both wired and mobile Internet do not work.”

According to the city council, there was also a blackout in the Bakhmatsk community: “As a result of massive shelling in the area, an emergency power outage, a blackout occurred. Restoration work is currently underway. The estimated time of electricity supply is still unknown.”

It was also noted that mobile phones and other gadgets can be recharged in the premises of the Bakhmach City Council or the premises of the 4th Fire and Rescue Detachment of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Chernihiv region.

Slavutych City Council reported that the city was also without electricity, stating that the “recovery time is still unknown,” while Mayor Yuriy Fomichev noted the city had heating and a water supply

Fomichev said: “Critical and social infrastructure is on backup power. Pharmacies, shops, and the service sector are open. We are opening Invincibility Points where you can charge gadgets and get hot water.”

According to the Chernihiv Prosecutor’s Office, thousands of consumers in the region had been left without electricity due to the attacks, and criminal proceedings have been initiated.
