Yaroslavl Oil Pumping Stations Damaged In Overnight Attack

Ukrainian drones managed to break through Russian air defence barriers in the early hours of the morning, with strikes causing “minimal” damage to oil pumping stations in the Yaroslavl region, north of Moscow, local authorities reported on Wednesday.

“An attack by drones on energy infrastructure in the Yaroslavl region has caused minor damage to oil pumping stations in two districts,” Yaroslavl regional Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said on Telegram.

Yaroslavl is home to several oil pumping stations that are owned by the pipeline giant Transneft, which keep oil flowing by maintaining pressure and throughput in the pipeline network, meaning their breakdowns can disrupt flow and increase costs.

“The situation has now been contained,” Yevrayev later wrote on Telegram, noting that there were no casualties as a result of the attack.

Civil aviation authorities had temporarily restricted flights in and out of Yaroslavl airport at 7:30am local time, and were lifted almost four hours later.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said the air defence systems shot down or intercepted one drone over the Yaroslavl region and three over the Belgorod region on Wednesday morning.
