⚡️ Syria complete Army integration program with the SDF, while Iraq look to keep the PMF as a separate military entity
➡️ Mazloum Abdi, the Commander of the SDF, spoke at the centenary of the city of Qamishli, announcing the integration of the SDF into the Syrian Defence and Interior Ministries was complete.
🔹 “Despite the mistakes and shortcomings that accompanied the SDF’s journey, it protected the region and its people under the most difficult circumstances,” he said: “Today, with the beginning of the integration phase with the government, we announce that we are entering a new phase and a new process.”
🔹 “We fought an existential battle and thousands of martyrs gave their lives in defence of their land and people,” he continued: “To everyone who supported and stood by us, and to everyone who sacrificed a martyr, a friend, and a piece of their heart, we say: Thank you, and we will never forget your sacrifices.”
🔹 Abdi said that despite the shortcomings and mistakes, the people remained with the SDF and stood by their side, and the loyalty would never be forgotten.
🔹 “Today, we announce the beginning of a new process in our areas, whose title is continuing to work for the rights of our people – the next battle will be political, and we will continue our struggle more strongly to establish the rights of the Kurdish people in the constitution,” the commander said.
🔹 Abdi concluded, saying: “We must work together and make the rights of the Kurdish people and their constitutional existence a permanent part of Syria’s future.”
🔹 Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said the government fully supported the strategic role the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) were going to play in the future role and would solidify their position as an integral part of the Iraqi armed forces.
🔹 The PM said the government had announced strong commitments to finalising the law that would formally integrate the organisation into the structure of the Iraqi Armed Forces, stating that the government was moving forward with the legal process which would legitimise the activities of the PMF.
