Iran 12 Hour Update (Morning) – March 17

Following drone strikes that targeted the Victoria base complex within Baghdad airport and the US Embassy, in which multiple explosions were heard, footage was released showcasing the moment of impact of one drone, while at least another two were intercepted.

An Israeli airstrike targeted an apartment residential complex in Aramoun, Lebanon, as footage taken by locals showed damage to an apartment in the residential complex.

Reports indicated an ongoing emergency situation at Ben Gurion Airport involving a US KC-135 refuelling aircraft.

Israel launched a violent airstrike on Dahieh in Beirut, Lebanon, with footage circulating online showcasing the moment of the explosion in the Laylaki area, which was followed by another violent strike around ten minutes later by Israeli jets.

Hezbollah announced they had destroyed 5 Merkava tanks since 8pm the night before while also participating in violent clashes in the Taybeh project area, and the number of alleged Merkava tanks destroyed since the start of the conflict had risen to 18.

Iran launched a cluster munition at central Israel, causing multiple explosions to be heard, as one missile was captured flying over Jordanian airspace, later confirmed to have been shot down, but because it was a cluster munition that had opened before itnerception, Channel 12 Israel reported impacts in open areas.

The IDF had also announced simultaneous strikes on Beirut and Tehran.

Sirens began sounding in the Dubai, UAE, soon after followed by interception activity and three explosions reported over Dubai  International Airport – the UAE had closed the airspace around an hour before the attack occurred, finally getting the all-clear from the alerts around 30 minutes later.

US Central Command released new video footage with a caption: “Teamwork makes it ALL work aboard an aircraft carrier launching flight operations!”

UKTMO reported a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while anchored 23 nautical miles east of Fujairah, UAE, causing minor structural damage with no casualties.

Rocket and missile alerts sounded in Kiryat Smona, Northern Israel, as Hezbollah launched a barrage from Lebanon.

Soon after reports of an explosion in Qatar, the Ministry of Defence took to X to state that the armed forces intercepted a missile attack which targeted the State, adding that they were dealing with a fire in an industrial area from falling debris from the interception, but no casualties were reported.

President Donald Trump told NBC that he had spoken with a former US president who supported his decision to bomb Iran, but aides for George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all denied recent contact, and Trump refused to identify the former President.

UAE authorities said debris from an intercepted ballistic missile killed a Pakistani national in the Bani Yas area of Abu Dhabi.

At 8:30am, rocket and missile alerts were detected in Nahariya, Kiryat Shmona and the surrounding area of the Confrontation Line region in Northern Israel, along with drones flying in shortly after.

Three B-52H bombers recently arrived at Fairford in the United Kingdom, making a total of 6 B-52H and 12 B-1B bombers deployed in England to carry out bombing missions in Iran – the B-52 uses AGM-156 JASSM cruise missiles launched from Iraq, while the B-1B can use JDAM and fly directly over Iran.

The US Navy is deploying additional E-2D AWACS to the Middle East to assist aerial and counter drone operations – five Hawkeyes landed overnight in the Azores and should complete their trip by Wednesday.

An Iranian-backed militia flew an FPV drone in the American embassy in Baghdad, with the footage appearing to show the drone was unarmed and was conducting surveillance on the area.

America isn’t the only ones reinforcing their early-warning assets to counter drone threats, as the French Navy also deployed its whole fleet of E-2C (3 units) on the Charles De Gaulle aircraft carrier, rather than adding extra Rafale M fighter jets to the 20 already on board.

KAN News cited Israeli officials when stating that senior Iranian figure Ali Larijani was among the targets of overnight IDF strikes in Iran, though this hasn’t been independently confirmed, and Israel N12 reported the results of the strike are still being assessed.

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the IDF had eliminated senior figures involved in Palestinian militancy in the West Bank during a strike on a safe house in Tehran, as Israeli sources stated the head of the Basij, Gholamreza Soleimani, along with other senior Basij officials, were targeted in the strike,and battle damage assessment was ongoing to determine the outcome.

Soon after, the IDF confirmed the head of the Basij, Soleimani, was killed in an airstrike, in which he was in a tent compound with other senior Basij leadership at the time the Israeli Air Force carried out the overnight strike.

Although Ali Larijani’s Telegram channel stated that a message from him, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, will be released shortly, Israeli’s Defence Minister announced the successful elimination of Ali Larijani.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stated on TV that he had been updated by Chief of Staff Zamir that Ali Larijani and the head of the Basij were killed in overnight Israeli operations in Iran, adding it was Netanyahu who had instructed the IDF to carry out the targeted attacks.

A handwritten message posted on the Telegram account of Ali Larijani said the deaths of Iranian Navy personnel were part of the nation’s sacrifices during what he described as a struggle against international oppression, stating that their memory would remain forever in the hearts of the Iranian people while their deaths would strengthen the foundations of the armed forces for years to come, concluding it by saying he also prayed for their elevation in status, in a message issued in Tehran.

Early warning reports were detected in Nahariya, Kiryat Shmona and the surrounding areas of the Confrontation Line region in northern Israel, soon followed by an announcement that a missile wasn’t intercepted, but had impacted in an ‘open area’ in the western Galilee.

Launches of a cluster munition were then fired soon after from Iran, followed by lots of iron dome launches over central Israel that eventually allegedly intercepted the missile, but possible impacts were reported in Gush Dan, as well as damage at several locations in Israel.

An Israeli airstrike targeted the Al-Jamous neighbourhood in the Dahieh district of Beirut, with images showing smoke rising, while there were also reports of strikes across Tehran, Iran.

According to i24NEWS, the IDF carried out an airstrike targeting a vehicle carrying weaponry in Syria yesterday, while Israel Channel 14 reported that overnight, an Israeli aircraft, in coordination with the IDF and Shin Bet, struck a weapons truck inside Syrian territory, noting that the shipment was reportedly bound for Hezbollah.

The IDF stated that they carried out a precision strike in central Tehran overnight, eliminating Ali Larijani, who was serving as the alleged ‘de facto leader of the Iranian regime,’ claiming that Larijani cemented his position after Khamenei’s killing and directed the campaign against Israel and regional states, ‘while overseeing the violent suppression of protestors.’

According to the Popular Mobilisation Forces, an Israeli-American airstrike targeted the headquarters of the 12th Brigade of the PMF’s Baghdad Belt Operations Command in the Nabai region at 11:30am on Tuesday, injuring three fighters, noting that the attack was carried out by hostile aircraft.

Hours after Trump launched his attack on Iran, he called one of his favourite influencers, Laura Loomer, to bask in her praise, reported the Financial Times.

China announced it will send humanitarian aid to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei rejected proposals sent to Iran’s Foreign Ministry by intermediaries, telling a foreign policy meeting ‘it is not the time for peace,’ a senior Iranian official told Reuters.

A Medevac flight was seen taking off from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, likely heading to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, which comes after the Saudi Ministry of Defence reported large waves of missile and drone attacks against the country throughout yesterday.

The IDF said that following the elimination of senior figures, they had launched a ‘wide wave of attacks against the infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime across Tehran.’

Reports that Khamanei is in Russia for medical treatment has been denied by the Iranian Ambassador in Moscow.

Netanyahu said this morning: “This is a new Middle East – but not like Peres’s, a non-realistic vision with rose-coloured glasses. Relationships are being formed with some countries that until recently seemed imaginary.

Satellite imagery allegedly independently confirmed real damage at the Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE after Iranian strikes, where possible impacts hit barracks/accommodation areas and nearby buildings, including visible craters and roof collapses.

EU’s Kaja Kallas said it is absolutely time to bring the Iran War to an end, but the problem with wars is that they are easier to start than to stop, and they always get out of hand.

The PMF announced that three of their members were injured in an attack by an enemy aircraft in the Nabaa’i area, north of Baghdad.

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said their security threat level is high, and everyone was required to stay at home in safe places.

UAE Ministry of Defence announced their air defences had dealt with 10 missiles and 45 drones coming from Iran today.
