Sierra Leone’s government said that several members of a border security team, including at least one officer, had been detained and taken across the border into Guinea by Guinean military personnel on Monday.
According to the reports, the incident occurred in the border town of Kalieyereh in the Falaba district, where members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces and police were “making bricks for the construction of a border post and accommodation facility” for the border post.
Authorities claim the detained personnel’s weapons and ammunition were also seized, but didn’t specify exactly how many individuals had been taken.
Sierra Leone is engaging through diplomatic and security channels to determine the detainees’ location and secure their safe and unconditional release.
