Iran has been a longtime member of the BRICS organisation and has been seeking additional help from Russia and China following last year’s 12-day war in which both countries effectively stood by and watched as Iran got hammered by Israel.
However, Iran had thought that strengthening military cooperation with China and Russia would have led to some involvement by these in order to keep the peace and the stability of the Middle East, but as it faces on of the most serious threats from the US in decades, both partners are hesitant to offer direct military backing, according to the WSJ.
Although Beijing and Moscow have recently expanded their ties with Tehran, neither of them seem prepared to intervene militarily if the United States were to launch a strike.
China is currently focused on maintaining steady oil supplies, so they have made multiple cargo trips and aided with defense and possible attack weaponry, while Russia is wary of jeopardizing its relationship with Donald Trump, yet secretly supplying Iran with arms – both appear to be unwilling to risk a direct confrontation with Washington over Iran.
