⚡️ — President Pezeshkian proposed three initiatives to strengthen the SCO role
➡️ Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for strengthening of security and economic cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit (SCO), presenting three initiatives that would deepen financial and banking cooperation, support trade and investment, and enhance energy security.
🔹 Pezeshkian addressed the 26th SCO Summit, highlighting major security and economic challenges facing the region, stressing for the need of greater cooperation among the member states to consolidate stability and build a shared future.
🔹 The President said trust-building, respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in international affairs and intergovernmental cooperation were essential to achieving sustainable security, drawing on the SCO’s more than two decades of indepedence.
🔹 President Pezeshkian identified terrorism, violent extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organised crime and cybercrime, along with growing geopolitical rivalries, unilateral policies and the use of military force, as major threats to regional stability and emerging economies.
🔹 Referring to the recent developments in the Middle East, along with the US and Israeli attacks against Iran, Pezeshkian described such actions as violations of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, outlining the course of developments afterward, while reaffirming Iran’s position regarding its commitments under the MoU.
🔹 Pezeshkian said that security and development were interconnected and inseparable, urging the SCO to address economic and security dimensions simultaneously.
🔹 The President identified intra-SCO trade, customs facilitation, transport corridors, connectivity between ports and logistics centres, expanded transit capacity, and stronger supply-chain resilience as key areas for key economic operation.
🔹 Pezeshkian proposed three economic initiatives to help going forward, including the establishment of a bank to deepen financial and banking cooperation, creating an export and investment insurance union, and forming an energy consortium.
🔹 In the security field, Pezeshkian also proposed establishing a strategic studies centre within the organisation which would identify emerging global threats and contribute to regional stability.
