What The Media Says About The US-Iran Agreement

⚡️ Following President Trump announcing a peace deal prior to the close of the US markets, (and the subsequent crash in oil prices as a result), multiple news agencies have claimed to have the scoop on what the deal includes, and here is a little roundup of what’s being said.

Media Reports About The Peace Deal:

⚡️ Israeli Hayom claimed to have the scoop on the agreement reached between the US and Iran, alleging that Iran had agreed in principle to transfer its enriched uranium above 3.75%, forgo long-term enrichment, and refrain from manufacturing or purchasing a nuclear weapon, as part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that led to the cancellation of the US strikes.

🔹 Thanks to the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz would be ‘fully opened with no restrictions or tolls’ upon signing, and both sides commit not to take military action against each other or any other regional country.

🔹 IH claimed the breakthrough came from a US willingness to release between $12-15 billion, under Qatari supervision, and a senior US official said the strategic goal of the regime change has ‘not been abandoned for the time being,’ adding that signing is expected next week, with Geneva potentially hosting the diplomats.

🔹 A Lebanon ceasefire clause remains open, the Israeli report claimed, stating that the US was willing to allow Israel to respond to emerging threats, while Iran demanded a full ceasefire.

🔹 Future negotiations are expected within two weeks (demanded by the US) or 60 days (demanded by Iran) which will address missile limits, Iranian support for proxies, US withdrawal from the Gulf, and international guarantees.

⚡️ Mehr News claimed that the previous 14-page agreement, published in the media around two weeks ago, was still the agreement on the table, and that President Trump had backtracked on extra demands or concessions in order to sign a deal quickly, (potentially wanting the war to end before the mid-term elections).

🔹 The 14-page article included an immediate war on all fronts, including Lebanon; the lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days; US withdrawal of forces from around Iran; and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days under Iranian arrangements (managed by the Persian Gulf Strait Authority).

🔹 Oil and petrochemical sanctions would be suspended under the agreement, Mehr continued, while the US and its allies would present Iran with a $300 billion reconstruction plan, as well as releasing $24 billion in Iranian frozen funds over 60 days, with half available before talks begin.

🔹 Final negotiations on nuclear issues and sanctions removal would last 60 days, with a UN Security Council resolution endorsing the agreement, while discussions on Iran’s missile programme and support for resistance groups are definitely off.

⚡️ Bloomberg‘s report suggested that the deal was edging closer to a signing of agreements to reopen the Strait of Hormuz around next week’s G7 Summit in Evian, France, with Geneva being floated as the potential signing location as soon as Sunday.

🔹 According to the report, the deal is expected to take the form of a MoU extending the truce by 60 days, reopening the Strait and ending the US Naval blockade, however, an Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman said: “We have not yet reached a conclusion to this matter,” adding that progress has been made towards ending the war.

🔹 Bloomberg said that another diplomat claimed Iranian negotiators have agreed to the deal, but it still remained unclear whether Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had signed it off.

⚡️ Iranian broadcaster IRNA said the framework of a MoU to end the war had been finalised and awaited a decision by Iranian bodies, stating that Iran retained management of the Strait of Hormuz, to be resolved with Iran, without any US activity, while war reparations were also on the agenda.

🔹 IRNA added that the final 60-day talks would cover only the peaceful nuclear programme, lifting of US sanctions and reparations, because Iran’s missile programme and other matters were off the table.

⚡️ Al Jazeera claimed that Iran hadn’t made a final decision on the MoU, stating the agreement had to go through ‘several levels of approval within Iran’s decision-making system,’ stating it it passed most of the necessary stages, but remained stalled at the highest level, adding that meetings were taking place in Iran throughout the night and early morning, and the outcome still looked uncertain.

⚡️ POLITICO claimed that Qatar, the UAE, and Pakistan had contacted President Trump following threats to strike Iran ‘very hard,’ saying a preliminary agreement with Tehran ‘was close,’ noting that assurances from Atari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Pakistani military chief Asim Munir all played a part in persuading Trump to cancel the strike plans and continue with negotiations.

⚡️ Reuters said a memorandum between the US and Iran aimed at ending the Gulf conflict could be signed as early as Sunday, with Geneva considered the most likely location, according to a western source, claiming the goal is to complete the text by Saturday, which would allow JD Vance and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to sign the memorandum.

🔹 According to a senior Iranian source, the draft would include lifting sanctions on oil, the release of billions of dollars in frozen assets, and a ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon.
