Ukrainian capital targeted by Iskander-M ballistic missiles – casualties and damage as a result

Kyiv was targeted overnight with Iskander-M ballistic missiles, as missile trackers AMK Mapping and Volga Lad (Vodka Echo) reported this morning, noting that air defences prevented increased damage at two of Kyiv’s power plants.

Spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Kyiv Pavlo Petrov stated that residents had very little time to reach shelters, as explosions rang out a few minutes after the air raid alarm, as Russia began an attack with a ballistic strike on Kyiv.

Rescuers had been deployed specifically to residential buildings in the Dnieper and Darnytsia districts.

Damage was caused to two residential buildings, nearby cars and a fire was in a small area, while drone debris in the Darnytsia district resulted in damage to many floors of a multi-story building, and rescuers had completed all their work on the residential buildings as of this morning.

Overnight, Russia targeted the CHP-4, CHP-5, and CHP-6 Combined Heat and Power Plant in Kyiv, with at least four shot down near CHP-4 and CHP-6, according to the trackers, however impacts still occurred which affected residents this morning.

As of February 12, damage was discovered to the facade and window panes of a residential building that were damaged by drone debris, noting that one person had been injured as a result of the attack.

Drones also fell near residential buildings in the Dnipro district last night at two locations, but fortunately there were no casualties, as rescuers and relevant services tackled the cleanup operation.

Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko noted that another person had been admitted to hospital overnight in a serious condition, while another received outpatient care from a doctor, as the casualty numbers rose to two.

According to Ukrainian sources, Russia targeted the Left Bank of Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, and as of 7:30am, there were two victims reported: A man and a woman.

Almost 2,600 buildings in the capital were without heat this morning, the Kyiv Mayor said, noting that: “These are multi-story buildings on both the Left and Right Banks of the city, in particular, in the Desnyanskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi and Solomianskyi districts.

More than 1,100 multi-story buildings in the Desnyanskyi and Darnytskyi districts were also left without heat after previous attacks, and it is currently impossible to supply heat to these buildings due to the damage committed to the Darnytskyi Thermal Power Plant.

An update later by DTEK clarified that 107,000 families in Kyiv were left without power, noting some buildings in the Desnyanskyi district were  affected, but workers immediately restored power to critical infrastructure facilities.

Power outages remain in effect for the Desnyanskyi district of Kyiv, while temporary schedules are being applied to other residents  of Kyiv.

Energy was restored to 100,000 families, reported DTEK in a later update, noting that the Desnyanskyi district was returning to temporary schedules instead of the permanent outage they had earlier in the morning.
