Mayor Vitali Klitschko said yesterday that the Darnytsia Thermal Power Station (TPP-4) suffered critical damage and would take at least two months to recover.
However, if there are any further devastating attacks, it could put the plant out of action completely.
This thermal power station provided heat to over 1,100 multi-story buildings in the Darnytsia and Dnipro districts, and the water had been drained from the heating system to prevent freezing.
Additional heating points had been installed in schools in the neighbourhoods whose buildings had been left without heat.
