Donetsk situational update for January 27

Around 4:30am, Russia fired mortar shells at residential buildings in Sloviansk, killing a couple and injuring their son, reported Head of the Local Military Administration Vadym Lakh.

Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office clarified that two people aged 45 and 48 were killed, while their 20-year-old son was injured, following three FAB-250 bombs with correction modules directly targeting Sloviansk, noting that the airstrike is being investigated as a war crime.

Russia attacked Kramatorsk with aerial bombs and various drones throughout the day, mainly targeting critical infrastructure, storage facilities, and the private sector, as the consequences of the attacks were being assessed, reported the Kramatorsk City Council.

Power outages were recorded this morning due to the attacks on the energy facilities overnight that are also affecting several other regions of Ukraine, reported Ukrenergo.

Druzhkivka and Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka were attacked by FPV drones yesterday, reported the Donetsk regional police, noting that a 57-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman had been injured, as 10 populated areas of the region had come under attack in total.

According to a report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Oleksandr Syrski, the Russian army was intensifying pressure and mobilising reserves in an attempt to break through the Ukraine defence in the region, noting that the Russians were deploying small infantry groups.

“Our key task is to inflict maximum losses on the enemy, destroy his reserves, and consistently reduce his offensive potential,” stated Syrski.
