Ukraine Morning Report For January 21st

Russia carried out an attack overnight using an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 97 strike drones, while other artillery continued to attack the front lines.

As of this morning, the Ukrainian air defences had destroyed 84 drones of various types, but hits of a ballistic missile and 13 strike drones as well as the debris from one falling drone were recorded at 12 locations around the country.

Yesterday, the Russians attacked Zelenivka in the Kharkiv region, damaging at least 2 private houses as they targeted the Kharkiv Military Vehicle Repair Plant, reported the Kharkiv police force.

Russia’s drone strike on the village of Tarasivka in the Kremenchuk district of Poltava destroyed one house, significantly damaged two others, while 10 nearby houses suffered from broken windows and damaged facades.

Sumy Police reported that a KAB strike in the Bilopilska community of Sumy injured a 21-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman while confirming that both received the necessary medical assistance and were being treated as an outpatient.

Unmanned aerial vehicles also hit targets in the Bititskyi and Stetskivtsi districts of Sumy, but no casualties were reported, according to a report from the Sumy Regional State Administration.

Hlukhiv was also attacked in Sumy yesterday, with the blast wave damaging six multi-story buildings and nearby cars as well as causing the heating system to fail.

Six aerial bombs were dropped on Druzhkivka in Donetsk yesterday morning, injuring four people who were all hospitalized, reported the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Chuihiv in Kharkiv was attacked last night with an Iskander missile which caused damage to at least eight buildings but no casualties, reported city Mayor Galina Minaeva.

Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleg Sinegubov reported that a 56-year-old woman, along with 78- and 74-year-old men suffered acute stress reactions as a result of the attack. 

Ongoing repair work at a boiler house in Dnipro which left 90 residents, 10 educational institutions and two medical facilities without heat, was constantly disrupted due to air raid alarms.

City Mayor Boris Filatov announced last night that all those disconnected from the heating network were now receiving a supply and it was a matter of time before heat returned to homes.

Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration Alexander Ganja stated that attacks on Nikopol yesterday left a private house destroyed and eight others damaged, along with a five-story building, three outbuildings, a greenhouse, and an electricity transmission line.

Chernihiv Border Guard Unit spokeswoman Halyna Shekovtsova noted that explosions were heard around the region as Russia attacked Novgorod-Siverska, Semenivska and Snovska with FPV drones and artillery.

Six populated areas of Kherson came under Russian attacks yesterday according to the KhMVA, noting that private and multi-story buildings were damaged and 10 people were injured in the Kherson community.

Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Ivan Fedorov reported that private homes and outbuildings were damaged overnight as Russia continued to attack the region.

Fedorov reported that a total of four people were killed and six others were injured yesterday, as Russia carried out 749 attacks on 34 populated areas of the region.

Russia carried out 19 airstrikes, 423 different types of drone, 4 attacks with MLRS and 303 artillery shells, resulting in 76 reports of damage to housing, cars and infrastructure.

Kryvyi Rih came under attack from ballistic missiles which caused damage to nine private homes, five multi-apartment buildings, an administrative building and a private car, reported Alexander Ganja.

Head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration Oleg Kiper reported that the Southern region was massively attacked, causing an injury to one person, while damaging private residential homes and destroying a furniture products warehouse.

Oleg Kiper later reported that a 50-year-old man suffered a leg injury and was hospitalised following an attack on the Odessa district.

Chornomorsk City Mayor Vasily Gulayev noted that the Black Sea community came under attack from drones that destroyed private homes and damaged infrastructure, but no casualties were reported.

Kramatorsk City Council reported that Russia used a Geran-2 drone at 23:08 which crashed in an open area of the community, noting that no injuries or damage was reported.

Russia attacked the village of Peredom in the Zolochiv community of Kharkiv with a drone at around 23:50, according to Head of the State Emergency Service Viktor Kovalenko, resulting in damage to residential buildings and outbuildings but no casualties were recorded.

Alexander Ganja reported this morning that a 77-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman had died in a drone attack on Synelnykove in the Dnipropetrosk region during the night, while a 53-year-old woman had been admitted to hospital in a moderate condition.

Fires broke out in the Vasilkovskaya and Rozdorskaya communities as a result of the attacks that damaged three private homes, Ganja added.
