Taganrog Left Without Power Following Ukrainian Attack

Reports began circulating this morning about an attack in Taganrog on social media, showing the outbreak of a fire at what appeared to be a substation, although locals initially reported the explosion was at the former plant of LLC Taganrog Automobile Plant, a former Russian company that assembled passenger and cargo vehicles of various brands at the facilities of the Taganrog Combine Plant from 1997 to 2014.

However, TASS later reported that an emergency shutdown of an high-voltage line had occurred in Taganrog, causing the power outages in several districts of the city, citing the local authorities report.

“According to PJSC Rosseti, there was an emergency shutdown of a high-voltage line. Power supply is absent in several districts of the city, while emergency crews are already working and making every effort to restore supply as soon as possible. The emergency situation is planned to be resolved in two hours,” the head of the city wrote.

It was confirmed that the transformer at 111K Sportivnaya caught fire, according to the media citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who stated that the fire had been localised to an area of 30 square metres, and there were no casualties to report.

A later update from the head of Taganrog stated that power supply had been restored to most of the consumers affected by the local technological disruption, using backup power supply systems, while organised repair work would allow them to promptly provide electricity to the remaining de-energised customers within two hours.
