Argentina ordered legislative action against British oil exploration in the Falkland Islands

⚡️ Argentina ordered legislative action against British oil exploration in the Falkland Islands

➡️ President Javier Milei ordered legislative action which counters British oil exploration in the Falkland Islands (Malvinas Islands):

🔹 “The office of the President informs that the President of the Nation, Javier G. Milei, has ordered the signing of the regulatory decree and the sending of a bill to the Honourable Congress of the Nation, in response to the advancement of the condemnable Sea Lion project toward oil exploration in the Malvinas Islands without authorisation from the Argentine Republic.

🔹 “In 1833, the United Kingdom occupied the Malvinas, expelled the Argentine authorities, and established a colonial situation that continues to this day.

🔹 “Today, our sovereignty faces a concrete and urgent danger. Sea Lion implies something especially grave that had never happened before: the extraction of a non-renewable resource that belongs to the Argentines. If we do not act, in a few months they will have the material capacity to appropriate the oil reserves lying beneath our sea.

🔹 “Furthermore, the advancement of this exploitation will generate an incentive for the United Kingdom to deepen occupation of the Islands and continue exploiting our resources.”

➡️ Buenos Aires also established synchronised defence mechanisms to counter the critical resource appropriation:

🔹 “Faced with this, the National Sovereignty Defence Bill will be sent to Congress, creating a National Security Council to define national security and policy and apply it across all sectors.

🔹 “Additionally, a protection regime for critical infrastructures and a framework for aerospace and maritime protection will be established. In this way it protects against potential attacks of all types to our country’s territorial integrity is deepened.

🔹 “Defence, National Security, State Intelligence, the Foreign Ministry, and the Ministry of Economy must act in a coordinated manner. A prosperous, politically relevant, and militarily respectable Argentina is in better condition to defend its territory, its resources, and its sovereignty.”
